More pertinent for students and graduates is its location in the “Research Triangle” area of North Carolina. That denotes a high technology hub that grew up around the university, along with two other colleges in the metro area – UNC at Chapel Hill, and Duke. This high tech hub, like Silicon Valley, was attracted due to the proximity to all the top talent at the university and graduating from it.


The mission statement of the university states, “Our world needs big, bold ideas and deeds to match.” NC State was founded in 1887, and has grown into a broad based curriculum, on its original founding as the engineering, science and agriculture university for North Carolina.
