University of Texas in Austin Rankings and ProfileUniversity of Texas at Austin (“UT”) is the main campus of the University of Texas system. By many standards the University of Texas is considered one of the top universities in the country, and one of the leading public universities, if not the leading public university. In the Brook Report rankings UT is doing quite well, based on its outstanding academics and diversity achievements.

The university is located in Austin, Texas, which is the capitol city of the state. As with some other cities with top-ranked engineering and science programs, Austin has grown up to be one of the top high-tech areas of the country. Some have attributed this growth to the favorable business climate provided in Texas for high-tech companies. However, the presence of the leading university in town has also been one of the leading factors, just as it has been in Silicon Valley, home of Stanford, Boston, home of MIT and Raleigh, home of Duke, N.C. State and University of North Carolina.

Longhorns Logo of University of TexasIn addition to academics, Texas is also known for its high degree of school spirit, with its famous Longhorns logo (shown here), and high-profile athletic teams. Typically the Longhorns teams are considered among the most popular in the country, even if they are not ranking as high as their alumni may like! Nevertheless, the combination of top tier academics and motivating sports loyalty makes the University of Texas alumni network among the strongest in the world. They are in tough competition with their in-state rival Texas A&M who is also known for a motivated and far-reaching alumni network. It also has made the university’s endowment among the largest, at times ranking as the largest depending on economic fluctuations. As they say at UT, “Hook ’em Horns”.

The rankings in which UT has appeared can be found at the end of this article.
